 Internet Explorer 5 Internet Connection Wizard

Before you can use NetDotCom to connect to the Internet you must have a NetDotCom Internet Access Account. Follow the instructions below to setup Windows 2000 for use with NetDotCom.

Click on Start, then Run, in the Open space provided, type inetwiz then click the OK button

 

Please click Connect using my phone line, then click Next. Note: In some instances another screen will appear before the one shown below. Choose the third option "I want to set up my Internet connection manually..." and click next. Click on the Next button to continue.

 

Type in one of the phone numbers listed below, then click Next. You can also use NetDotComs' Number Finder to locate access numbers in other areas.

IMPORTANT: Please use a number that is a local call from your location. If you do not know which number to select, please call NetDotCom for assistance or check with your telephone company operator. Dial "0" (zero) and ask the operator if there is a charge to dial the number selected. IMPORTANT! NetDotCom will not be responsible if your choice results in toll charges appearing of your phone bill.

Type in your NetDotCom User name and Password in the appropriate spaces below, then click Next. For security reasons your password will show up as dots so please type carefully. Please type in all small letters without any spaces or punctuation marks or symbols. Make sure all three check boxes are checked.

 

For the Connection name type in NetDotCom then click Next.

 

Click Yes to set up your E-mail account now the click Next.

 

If Outlook Express has been used before on this computer you will be shown the screen below and asked to create a new account or use an existing account, otherwise this step is skipped.

If the account listed is a NetDotCom account and your only confirming or changing settings select "Use an existing Internet Mail account". Otherwise select Create a new Internet mail account then click Next. If the old account is no longer used you should remove it from Outlook Express to prevent errors when sending or receiving e-mail. 

 

If you selected "Use an existing Internet Mail account" the screen below allows you to confirm the account settings. Click Next to continue.

 

In the "Display Name" space type in the name that you want to appear on all messages you send out then click Next. This can be a nickname, initials or your real name. This name is not the same as your email address, which is typed in on the next screen.

 

Type in your e-mail address exactly as given to you by NetDotCom. Normally it should be in all small letters, however you can use capitals to make it easier to read. No spaces are permitted. Click Next to proceed.

 

On the "E-mail Server Names" screen, select POP3 for the type of incoming server.

Next, the Incoming and Outgoing mail server names need to be typed in. The following table indicates the proper mail server name to use based on your selected NetDotCom e-mail address. After the information is entered, click Next to proceed.

In the "Account name" space, please type in your e-mail address and password exactly as given to you by NetDotCom. This must be typed in all small letters without any spaces. Any mistakes will prevent you from retrieving e-mail sent to you. The 'check boxes' should be selected as shown. Click Next to proceed.

 

Click Finish to complete the Internet Connection Wizard.

 

If you selected the box to connect to the Internet immediately the Dial-up Connection screen is displayed. This will allow you to connect to NetDotCom and the Internet. If you want to connect at this time click on the Connect button otherwise click on the X in the top right corner. Note: Unless you are familiar with how to turn off the automatic connection feature, please DO NOT check "Connect automatically".
