NetDotCom strongly recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.

The latest version can be obtained from NetDotCom on CD or you can download the update from Microsoft's web site.

 Internet Explorer 4 Connection Wizard (Win 95c, Win 98 First Edition)

If you make any mistakes during this setup, simply click on the BACK button to correct the mistake.

IMPORTANT: This procedure may require your Windows CD to copy files from. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT AVAILABLE BEFORE YOU START!

To begin:

Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.
Locate, then double-click on the Internet icon (Note: If the icon is labeled Internet Options then you have Internet Explorer 5 and should use these instructions)

Next, click on the Connection tab, then click on the Connect button.

 

The "Getting Connected!" window will appear. Click Next.

 

If Windows 95: (Shown below) Click the second option; "I want to set up a new connection on this computer…" then click Next.

If Windows 98: Choose the second option; "I have an existing Internet account through my phone line or local area network".

Another window will appear, select the first option, which reads, "Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using and Internet Service Provider or a local area network". Then click Next.

 

The "Set Up Your Internet Connection" window will appear. Click "Connect using my phone line" and click Next.

At this point, Windows may need to copy files from your Windows CD. If you receive "Version Conflict" messages click on the Yes button to retain the newer files.

 

Type in one of the phone numbers listed below, then click Next. You can also use NetDotComs' Number Finder to locate access numbers in other areas.

IMPORTANT: Please use a number that is a local call from your location. If you do not know which number to select, please call NetDotCom for assistance or check with your telephone company operator. Dial "0" (zero) and ask the operator if there is a charge to dial the number selected. IMPORTANT! NetDotCom will not be responsible if your choice results in toll charges appearing of your phone bill.

Type in your account/user name and password exactly as given to you by NetDotCom. Please type in all small letters, and without any spaces or punctuation marks. Example: johndoe@netdotcom.com

Select No when asked if you want to change any of the Advanced settings, then click Next.

Please type NetDotCom in the "Connection Name" space.

Click on Yes to set up an Internet Mail account.

Note: If you are switching from another Internet Service Provider or re-installing, you may be be asked if you want to "Create a new Internet mail account" or "Use an existing Internet mail account". Please choose "Create a new Internet mail account", then click Next.

In the "Display Name" space type in the name that you want to appear on all messages you send out. This name can be a nickname initials or your real name. This name is not the same as your email address, which is typed in at the next step.

Please type in your e-mail address exactly as given to you by NetDotCom. Please type in all small letters, and without any spaces or punctuation marks.

Next, the Incoming and Outgoing mail server names need to be typed in. The following table indicates the proper mail server name to use based on your selected NetDotCom e-mail address. After the information is entered, click Next to proceed.

Single click on Log on using, in the "POP Account name" space, please type in your e-mail address and password exactly as given to you by NetDotCom. This must be typed in all small letters without any spaces. Any mistakes will prevent you from retrieving e-mail sent to you. The 'check boxes' should be selected as shown. Click Next to proceed.

 

Single click on Next to accept the "Friendly Name" for your e-mail account. This is used to describe this email account and can be changed if desired. It usually is filled in with mail.netdotcom.com

Click No to setup an Internet News account, then click Next.

 

Click No when asked to setup an Internet Directory Service, then click Next.

 

The configuration process is now complete, click Finish.
