If you are unable to send mail but continue to receive mail and use Norton AntiVirus read the following information.
Verify that the NetDotCom E-mail server settings in your e-mail program are correct.
Verify that Outlook Express is not set to disconnect after sending or receiving e-mail.
If the above are correct, Norton AntiVirus may be operating incorrectly.
Before making any changes to Norton AntiVirus setting you should run the Live Update utility (following all instructions) until no updates are available. The try to send a test message. If the problem still occurs,
the following steps will enable you to turn off the outgoing mail scanning feature in Norton AntiVirus 2003.
Open Norton AntiVirus
Start > Programs > Norton AntiVirus > Norton AntiVirus
Shown below is the main Norton AntiVirus window. With the most common options.
Click on the Options button at the top.

Below is the main Option window showing the most common settings.

Click on Email under the Internet category.
Click in the checkbox to remove the checkmark to disable "Scan outgoing Email (recommended)" then click the OK button. This will return you to the main AntiVirus window.

Close the Norton AntiVirus window and send a test message. If the message was sent without errors you may want to try re-enabling the outgoing mail scanning feature.
Your system will still be protected against virus received through e-mail but in the event your system gets infected in another way you will not be protected against sending viruses.
