 Proper Computer Phone Line Wiring

Shown below is a wiring diagram of the proper way to connect your computer's modem to the telephone service outlet.

To obtain the best possible performance and reliability your computer's modem needs to be the first device connect to the telephone service outlet.

If you do not have a surge suppressor with telephone ports simply connect the "In" port of the modem to the telephone service outlet.

If you are having connection problems (disconnects, slow speeds) and use a surge suppressor with telephone ports, we suggest bypassing the surge suppressor (for the modem only) to see if the difficulties subside.
