The following steps will remove any password set in the Internet Explorer Content Advisor and reset Content Advisor to its disabled condition.
WARNING: The following procedure deletes information in the Windows registry.
NetDotCom assumes no responsibility for any damages caused to you or your
computer.
Removing the wrong information can prevent Windows or any other program from operating correctly.
We strongly suggest that you first "backup" the registry by selecting
"Export" from the "File" or "Registry" menu within the registry editor.
-
Click on the Start button then click on Run.
-
In the "Open" space, type in regedit then click on OK. (backup registry at this point)
-
Click on the + sign to the left of H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
-
Continue to click on the + sign at the left of the following folders:
Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Policies.
-
Next click on the word Ratings.
-
In the right half of the RegEdit window, you'll see the word Key. Click once on Key then press the Delete key on your keyboard. (You've just deleted the
forgotten Content Advisor password.)
-
Next, click on the word Registry in the top left corner of the Registry Editor window, then click on Exit.
-
Shutdown Windows and restart.
-
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel (All Win versions except XP) or Start, Control Panel (Win XP only)
-
Locate and then double click on Internet (Internet Explorer version 4) or Internet Options (Internet Explorer version 5 or above)
-
Click on the Content tab and then click on the Disable button. When asked for a password, don't enter anything; just click on the OK button. This will disable
Content Advisor because there's no longer a password.
-
Click on OK to close the Internet Properties window then close the Control Panel.
This completes the steps necessary to remove the Content Advisor password.
